Power tools worth understanding early
A circular saw is preferred by carpenters for accurate, quick straight cuts — knowing its parts makes it far easier to use safely and well. A power drill is the basic workhorse for drilling holes and driving screws across most woodworking and DIY projects. A power miter saw is built for angled cuts on moulding, trim work, rafters and general carpentry, and with the right blade fitted becomes just as capable of clean, straight crosscuts.
If you don't have many tools yet, don't feel pressure to buy everything you might ever need on your first visit — buy for the project in front of you, and build the collection as you go. As you gain experience, you'll make sharper decisions on what to buy and when.
If you'll only use a tool once or twice, a semi-professional grade is often the smarter buy. If you know you'll be reaching for it on project after project, a professional-grade tool usually pays for itself. Sofaru Hardware carries both tiers, so you can buy for how the tool will actually be used.
